June 25, 2023 "God is Non-Binary"

God is not a “he” or a “she.” From the genesis, we have recognized that to be created in the image of God is to be created male and female. God both includes and transcends all expressions of gender. How might we be open to identities and expressions of gender beyond just hose with which we are familiar?

June 18, 2023 "David and Jonathan: A Love Story"

From the ancient stories of the people of Israel, comes the story of two heroes that loved one another, David and Jonathan. The text reveals and tradition has upheld a deep level of intimacy between this same gender couple. There is no way to know the precise nature of their relationship or even if relationships were understood the same way in that time and place. However the story of Jonathan and David invites us into an expanded understanding of the ways we love one another.

June 11, 2023 "Asking for What We Need"

To find the place we belong means more than just being tolerated, it means being able to ask for what we need and allowed to serve the needs of others. Jesus himself was reminded by the Syrophoenician woman that God’s love and healing are available for all. Like the early church, how might we organize ourselves to hear and serve the needs of all?

June 4, 2023 "Our Story is a Widening Circle"

The story of the early church is a story of an ever-widening circle of inclusion, an ever-growing invitation to the table of God’s love. From the multiple tongues of Pentecost to  the meeting of cultures in the story of Peter and Cornelius. A widening circle always causes tension, growth usually comes with discomfort. However, God’s promise is her presence and an ever-expanding experience of him as we take the risk of encountering the holy other. You can read Pastor Jason's sermon here.
