Open and Affirming

You are welcome here!

On  Sunday March 18, 2012 the membership of First Congregational Church of Lake Worth voted to adopt the following statement:

The people of First Congregational Church of Lake Worth believe that all people are created in God’s image and thus are blessed and loved equally by God. In seeking to follow Jesus Christ, we invite diversity and affirm the dignity and worth of every person.

Therefore, we welcome all to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities, blessings and joys of our church family. We embrace persons of every age, gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, faith background, marital status and family structure, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, economic and social status, and educational background.

We are open and affirming. All are welcome!

This statement was written by those who engaged in a period of study, conversation, prayer, and discernment. We listened as God spoke to us through scripture and experiences shared by one another. We want to live into our belief that “no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”

If you are a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender person, it might be hard for you to take the risk to be a part of or even visit a church, especially if you have been hurt by a church in the past. We want you to know that you are welcome here, as God created you, to use the gifts God has given you.
