Daily Lectionary Reading: Psalm 98 (NRSV, The Message); Isaiah 42:5-9 (NRSV, The Message); Acts 10:1-34 (NRSV, The Message)

“I am God. I have called you to live right and well.
I have taken responsibility for you, kept you safe.
I have set you among my people to bind them to me,
and provided you as a lighthouse to the nations,
To make a start at bringing people into the open, into light:
opening blind eyes,
releasing prisoners from dungeons,
emptying the dark prisons.

Isaiah 42:6-7 (The Message)

The words of the prophet were originally spoken to the people of Israel. Millenia later can we hear them as spoken to all of us and to each of us? The message of scripture, the message of sacred wisdom is that we are blessed to be a blessing, each of us charged with making "a start at bringing people into the open, into light..."
